Power Learning Workshop, 2005
Creating Student-Centred, Problems-Based Classrooms with Dynamic New Technologies

Overview

Join the world-renowned Jamie McKenzie for a series of workshops aimed at maximising the benefits of new technologies in your school.

Move beyond the acquisition and installation of equipment to an emphasis upon curriculum, effective teaching and the construction of lessons that promote inquiry, problem-solving and the generation of innovative new ideas.

Learn how to focus classroom investigations around decisions and problems drawn from the local community and the global neighbourhood.

Engage students in making their own meaning from the vast new information landscape which has been made readily and rapidly available by access to new technologies in our schools. How do we create an "information literate school community?"

How does the role of classroom teacher change in such a program? How do we provide structure? How do students cope with Info-Glut, Info-Garbage and Info-Tactics? How does information differ from Truth? How do students learn to recognise the difference?

In addition to an opportunity to enjoy demonstrations and an explanation of the research model by Jamie McKenzie, participants will work in groups sharing computers to investigate questions based upon the Research Cycle and focussing on text, numeracy and visual literacy.
